NBI Newsletter 8/2006:
A Review of 2006: The year has proven to be a dynamic
year of change for NBI. The company has added new processes and capabilities and has made
significant investment in capital equipment.
Lead Free:
|
To meet customer requirements
for lead-free products, NBI purchased new equipment and engineered special processes to
provide lead-free soldering. NBI has now been successfully delivering lead-free products
to customers since March of this year. |
Wiring and Cabling: NBI has added wiring and cabling
services. A Eubanks Model 7400 wire prep machine was purchased. The addition of this
machine provides NBI with computer controlled measuring, cutting, and stripping for both
single wires and multi-conductor cables. In addition to high throughput, NBI is capable of
superior quality due to the precision measuring and stripping capabilities of the Eubanks
machine.
Universal Crimping Press: NBI has also purchased a
Molex TM-3000 Universal Crimping Press. This further increases productivity and enhances
the quality of NBI manufactured cables and harnesses.
Pick and Place Machine: To top off capital acquisition
for 2006, NBI has purchased a third pick and place machine. Delivery for a new Contact
Systems Model 3Z is expected in September. This machine will compliment NBI's existing
surface mount line which includes another 3Z machine as well as a Contact Systems Model
3AVX. The 3Z machines can place BGA devices and components as small as 0402 at a rate of
13,000 placements per hour. The 3AVX machine is rated for 8,500 placements per hour. This
addition will have a significant and positive impact on NBI's throughput.
Vertical Integration and Test: NBI is increasing
options for customers. Among the services NBI can help with is vertical integration of
customers' needs including functional test, box-build, and point of sale packaging.
Approximately 70 percent of products shipped have been functionally tested.
ISO 9001:2000:
NBI successfully completed its three-year re-assessment audit in May. This was a two and a
half-day thorough audit of the quality management system. |
